The Best Tools for Amazon Sellers

Amazon sellers want to make smart decisions to maximize profits. Here's a list of popular tools to assist with product research, Amazon product analytics, and more.

When I first became an Amazon seller in 2014, it was kind of an accident. I invented a board game called The Voting Game and discovered Amazon was the best place to get it out to customers. The next five years were a whirlwind: I named my business Player Ten Games, sold the brand, and started a second Amazon business selling fun alternatives to children’s clothing called Cuddle Club.

It was a constant learning process—and in many ways, it still is. Running an e-commerce venture means constantly reinventing your business and reshaping your strategies as you acquire new knowledge. Utilizing different tools is essential for Amazon sellers to evolve with the ever-changing market.

Some of the most common types of tools Amazon sellers employ include:

  • Product research
  • Keyword research
  • Listing optimization
  • Analytics and reporting
  • Advertising optimization
  • Off Amazon traffic and attribution
  • Inventory management
  • FBA auditing and reimbursement
  • Feedback and Reviews
  • Product ranking
  • Accounting
  • Order management
  • Price optimization

If that seems like a lot to think about, that’s okay—it is! You can take things one step at a time. After all, establishing yourself as a successful Amazon seller requires more than just a few product postings.

Amazon is an enormous, worldwide marketplace—which means there’s a lot of potential for profit, but there’s also a lot of competition. To really succeed, sellers need to:

  • Offer products that people want to buy at a price that’s competitive
  • Create product detail pages that accurately communicate what the product is and why a customer would want to buy it
  • And target the keywords customers are already using to find products like yours

Let’s walk through each category of Amazon seller tools. Along the way, I’ll provide some recommendations that you can weigh against your earned experience and your business’s unique goals and challenges.

Product Research Tools

Maybe you’ve noticed that the Amazon logo has an arrow jumping from A to Z. It’s a clever nod to the fact that you can buy almost anything through the e-commerce giant. Customers benefit from enormous convenience and selection, but sellers can be overwhelmed by the sheer volume and level of competition. In a marketplace this dynamic and massive, you’ll want to find a profitable product niche.

If you already have a product idea, that’s great! You can use the following tools to explore how profitable your offering is likely to be. If you don’t have a specific product in mind but still want to earn money through Amazon—well, these product research tools can help you with that too.

Here are two product research tools to help you decide what to sell:

  • Jungle Scout: Streamline the process of identifying profitable product niches. Explore product opportunities, sales insights, revenue projections, and historical data.
  • Helium 10: With features like Black Box for product ideas, Cerebro for reverse ASIN lookup, and Xray for market insights, Helium 10 streamlines the process of finding and launching successful products on the Amazon marketplace.
  • SellerApp: Identify the best-selling products in any category, vet product ideas with an “opportunity score,” and brainstorm new product ideas without the hassle of manual research.

I recommend taking advantage of free trials of these tools to investigate what works for you.

Keyword Research Tools

Most online shoppers discover the products they want via a search bar. This might be the Amazon search bar or through a search engine like Google. To effectively attract customers, Amazon sellers must target the keywords people are searching for and match those to their offerings.

Some popular keyword research tools include:

  • Helium 10: Identify relevant, high-ranking keywords for your products. The "Cerebro" feature performs reverse ASIN lookups, revealing the keywords their competitors are ranking for. Additionally, Helium 10's "Magnet" tool generates extensive lists of related keywords, helping sellers discover profitable search terms and improve visibility.
  • SellerApp: Not only can SellerApp provide product research, it also offers a Chrome extension to explore keywords relevant to your offerings.
  • Ahrefs: Type in one term and get five keyword ideas, complete with search volume and other essential data. Easy as can be.
  • Keyword Tool: A free keyword research tool with a pro version for those who need it.
  • Google Keyword Planner: While not specifically a tool for Amazon, Google Keyword Planner provides insight into search trends and volume for specific keywords. And it’s obviously helpful for sellers looking to push Google Ads.

There are several free keyword research tools, so mix and match to find new search terms. Take advantage of keywords related to seasons, holidays, and trends. Just because no one is searching for scarves in July doesn't mean there isn't huge demand in other parts of the year. Updating your keywords regularly keeps you ahead of shifting buyer behaviors.

An Amazon analytics tool can help you nail down which changes help your business—but we’ll get into that later in this article.

Listing Optimization Tools

Your product listing should give shoppers all the information they need to make a buying decision. This includes keywords, product descriptions, images, and other listing elements. If you’re selling children’s clothing like I do, you’ll want to include the fabric type, how to wash it, and sizing information. If you sell cookware, highlight things like the material, uses, and whether it’s dishwasher-safe.

Still, there are some elements you might not think about. This is where listing optimization tools come in. Examples include:

  • MerchantWords: Get insight into emerging trends and find out how to improve listings.
  • SixLeaf: Identify ASIN strength, consistency, and listing quality.

Listings are never a one-and-done exercise. You’ll likely return again and again to improve these over time, differentiate yourself from competitors, and add information as customers ask questions or request more information.

What Amazon sellers really benefit from is the ability to easily measure how updating your affects your conversion rates, profits, and advertising metrics. Luckily, there’s a tool that can do all this and more, which we cover in the next section.

Amazon Product Analytics and Reporting Tools

As anyone who has sold on Amazon knows, Amazon reports are incredibly clunky. Even simple tasks—like combining reports or drilling down into one piece of data—are needlessly difficult. That’s why I developed Junglytics—to delve into the data most important to making smart decisions.

Junglytics is a highly customizable Amazon product analytics tool for sellers. We take all of the data out of Seller Central, clean it up, and enable our users to build fully customizable dashboards that can be filtered to any subset of their catalog. Even if you have a ton of ASINs and a lot of complexity in your catalog, Junglytics dramatically simplifies getting access to your data.

The Junglytics business intelligence and analytics platform offers Amazon sellers:

  1. Profit transparency for each subsegment of your business (regions, product lines, variations, etc.)
  2. KPI monitoring across 40+ metrics to discover what’s working and what isn’t
  3. Accountability for agencies, brand managers, and everyone at the company
  4. Unlimited customizable dashboards
  5. Up to 4 years of historical data
  6. And so much more

Junglytics is appropriate for sellers of all sizes. It doesn’t matter if you are an Amazon native brand or a traditional retail brand that now sells on Amazon. If you want to make data-driven decisions that grow your profitability, Junglytics is made for you.

Advertising Optimization

Amazon advertising should be in every seller’s arsenal. It’s a wonderful way to attract new customers, retarget existing customers, and draw attention to specific products or limited-time deals. But advertising isn’t free. It’s an investment. And if you don’t know how your ads are performing, you can’t determine how to get the best returns on your advertising spend.

Luckily, Junglytics helps with tracking advertising too. Our business intelligence tool provides insight into:

  • Business-critical KPIs like total advertising cost of sale (TACoS), ad conversion rate, percentage of sales supported by pay-per-click advertising (PPC), and many more
  • Sudden spikes or drops in sales or clicks, and factors that might contribute to these fluctuations
  • Budget management and ROI at the product line or variation level
  • What product variations you’re spending advertising dollars on, and how each of those variations is converting

This last bullet point deserves extra attention. If you are advertising a specific product variation, do you know how well it's converting? What about if you are running several different ads, each featuring a different product variation? Can you tell which product variations are getting you the best returns on your advertising investments? That’s the level of granularity and specificity you get thanks to the highly-customizable dashboards in Junglytics.

Google Ad Tools

Rather than starting their search on Amazon, a lot of shoppers find products sold on Amazon through Google search. Sellers can use Google keyword tools to target search terms, either for organic searches or ads. Focusing on advertising, these tools can help intercept customer shopping through Google:

  • Ampd: Target mid-funnel customers with high buying intent on Google.
  • AdAdvance: A really great resource for sellers trying to outsmart their competition, rather than outspend them on advertisements. Their demand-side platform helps target hyper-specific audiences, which is a big win for sellers of niche products.
  • Goat Consulting: This is an agency, not a tool. But they offer guidance on how to get the most out of your ad investments.

Since pay-per-click (PPC) is the norm, it’s wise to get your ads in front of the right customers to save money and boost ROI.

Inventory Management

Inventory, shipping, and fulfillment are some of the heftier tasks for Amazon sellers—which is why so many sellers choose Fulfillment By Amazon for their business. Honestly, that’s a really great option for some sellers. You benefit from lightning-fast shipping, improved search rankings on Amazon, and offloading a good deal of work sending products through the mail.

Other Amazon sellers, however, prefer cost controls and personalized branding by managing inventory, shipping, and fulfillment themselves.

Whatever you decide, there are a few tools to track inventory levels, monitor sales velocity, and forecast demand to avoid stockouts or overstock situations. A few examples include:

  • Sellbrite: A comprehensive tool for inventory and fulfillment management. It’s even FBA-ready for sellers who go that route.
  • InventoryLab: Streamline the entire inventory workflow from listing, tracking, and accounting for products. Take advantage of batch tracking, cost analysis, and detailed sales reporting.
  • SoStocked: With features like real-time sales tracking, replenishment suggestions, and inventory performance analysis, SoStocked helps sellers maintain optimal stock levels, reduce storage costs, and ensure products are consistently available to meet customer demands on the Amazon marketplace.
  • Restock Pro: This tool helps sellers know exactly what to restock and when. Analyzing more than 70 data points, avoiding stockouts, reduce FBA fees, create purchase orders, track shipments, manage suppliers, and more.

As your business grows, you may have to revisit shipping and fulfillment for scalability and cost.
