Knowing the ins and outs of selling on Amazon is key to boosting profits. While we all know Amazon has great money-making potential, it's crucial to understand all the fees involved. Apart from the obvious costs, there are subtleties that every seller should know about. Missing these details might unexpectedly affect your earnings.

So, here’s a quick guide to Amazon selling fees.

Amazon Referral Fee

Every Amazon seller has to pay a mandatory fee, no matter if they use Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) services or not. This fee gives access to Amazon's big platform and wide consumer base. Generally around 15% in most categories, remember that some categories might have different percentages. For a detailed breakdown of referral fees by category, check out the full list here.

The Amazon seller asks: Give me a line graph of Amazon Referral Fees by Product Line for last week. The Junglytics Assistant, an AI business intelligence tool for Amazon businesses, returns a line graph showing Amazon Referral Fees by product line.

Amazon Professional Selling Account Fee

The Amazon Professional Selling Account costs $39.99 a month. If you're just starting, you can go for the free account with a small fee of $0.99 per item sold. Once you sell more than 40 products monthly, switching to a Professional account is a smart move.

Pay Per Click (PPC)

Using Pay Per Click (PPC) on Amazon isn't just good—it's pretty much a must for success. By getting into Amazon's PPC game, sellers can boost visibility and sales. Plus, the cool thing is you get to set your PPC budget, making Amazon super adaptable to your strategy and goals.

Amazon FBA Fees: Pick & Pack, Storage, and Inventory Placement Service

The following set of Amazon selling fees only apply to FBA sellers.

  • Pick & Pack Fees: These fees can run from $2.41 to $5.26 per unit—or much more than this depending on the size and weight of your goods. The FBA fee covers all the stuff like order fulfillment (picking, packing, shipping) and handling customer service and returns. The fees depend on your item's size and weight. Check the detailed list to find your product category and fees, or try the FBA fee calculator for products already on Amazon.
  • Storage Fees: Usually $0.69 per cubic foot, this fee increases to $2.40 per cubic foot during the winter holiday season (October to December). Amazon charges storage fees based on your products' warehouse space. Fees spike during holidays, especially pre-Christmas, due to high demand. Sales surge up to five times, notably for toys. Plan inventory meticulously to prevent overspending on surplus stock during peaks.
  • Inventory Placement Service: This fee is $0.30 per unit. When you send a bunch of stuff to Amazon FBA, they might split up your shipment and send your products to different warehouses. To make things easier, you can use the Inventory Placement Service to send all your items to one warehouse.
